THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL ANOMIE AND THE MANIPULATION OF THE COLLECTIVE MIND

RRSS 2025 No. 27 - Romanian Review of Social Sciences

  2. Keywords: social anomie, manipulation of the masses, emotional chaos, group interests, collective mind

  3. Abstract:

\r\n The need to establish anomie within a people is a premise for the destabilization of citizens. The effect sought in such situations takes the form of a manipulation of the collective mind, which aims to satisfy some group interests. The historical characteristics of the population subjected to destabilization lose their strength, and it reaches a certain degree of social anomie.

    \r\n

\r\n A serious contribution in this situation is the politics of the respective state, embodied in behind-the-scenes games, group interests, and evasion of the law, against the background of inducing a state of collective fear related to possible pandemics, invasions by foreign forces, future economic and energy crises, etc.

    \r\n

\r\n One method that serves such action abundantly is mass communication manipulation. In this sense, communicators act in the sense of diminishing the importance of ancestral values and also of exacerbating non-values, or so-called new values, which usually lead to the shaping of an emotional state of generalized chaos, tire the individual mind, and end with the abandonment of the defense of tradition, common sense, and logic. Interestingly, the old methods of manipulation through mass communication have started to fail. The main cause is the internet, by which the masses are wanted to be monitored.

    \r\n

\r\n However, something has gotten out of control: the masses are getting informed more and more insistently from the Internet; they filter the information, and the efforts of the manipulators are hampered. This aspect triggered a struggle at the mental level between populations and interest groups. This has already become a challenge, and the anomie installed in various areas tends to reorient citizens to basic needs and eliminate the new values imposed by progressives.
