Abstract:
In contemporary society, the extent to which migration occurs, the multiple and diverse consequences that it generates have determined a deeper and interdisciplinary concern of researchers for the study of this phenomenon. However, some of the social, political and cultural values that migration implies have not been studied enough. The present paper aims to analyse the young people’s level of knowledge as regards the evolution and causes which trigger the migration phenomenon in contemporary society, as well as the social, political and cultural effects that it generates in the origin and host countries. In the present paper we also intend to reveal the Romanian young people’s perception as regards the way immigrants are treated in the host country by answering questions like: are they discriminated? If yes, are there categories that are more discriminated in comparison with the others? Last but not least, the present research is meant to identify the degree of tolerance that Romanian young people have in relation to different emigrant categories.
